About SITH
Origins and Purpose
The International Society of Hydrothermal Techniques (SITH) was founded over thirty years ago with the main aim of promoting, in all countries, the study and research of hydrothermal techniques across multiple scientific fields such as engineering, climatology, architecture, economy, geology and biology.
In recent years, the Society has placed particular emphasis on collaborating with institutions and organisations to develop a legal framework for the protection of hydro-climatic heritage and to promote the study of hydrothermal techniques at university level.
Relevance and Mission
The objectives with which the Society was founded are increasingly relevant today. One of humanity’s greatest challenges is the rational use of our planet’s water resources, among which thermal and mineral waters are of exceptional importance for their therapeutic value. Recognised for centuries by civilizations worldwide, these waters are used by millions of people every year for curative and wellness purposes. Their diversity and ubiquity have shaped cultures and communities around spas and wellness centres. The SITH’s mission is to foster research, exchange knowledge internationally, and encourage collaboration among organisations linked to the hydrothermal world, ultimately contributing to improving people’s quality of life through hydrothermal treatment.
International Presence and Organisation
Founded in 1959 by professionals from various countries, the SITH has held conventions across the world — including in Italy, France, Russia, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Belgium, Poland, Switzerland, Hungary, Sweden, Turkey, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Cuba, Romania, Japan, Iran and Mexico. The SITH is a non-governmental, non-profit association that devotes all its resources to its founding goals. The central office is currently located in Spain, and its structure is based on national sections in each member country, which together form the Society’s global network.
